About NHS Champions

What makes an NHS Champion?

An NHS Champion is someone who has gone the extra mile to provide exceptional care to an individual, their partner, family or friends within the last two years, since September 2006. They are often the unsung heroes of the NHS. The judges will look at

  • the impact the nominee has had on patients, relatives and carers
  • the quality of care they gave
  • the dedication they showed
  • how they went above and beyond what was required of them in their job.

Who is eligible to be nominated as an NHS Champion?

The person you nominate must be an employee of the NHS in London, which means they have a contract of employment to provide services to the NHS. This includes agency staff.

The care they have provided must have been given in the last two years.

Why do you need contact details for me and the person I am nominating?

We need your telephone number in case we need to contact you, for example if there is any information missing from your nomination form. We would also like to feature the stories of NHS staff who have been nominated as NHS Champions in London media. If you give us permission to use your story, we will need to contact your nominee to check that they are also happy for the story to appear in the media.

We will not pass on your contact details, or those of your NHS Champion, to anyone else. Where you indicate that you do not want your story to be featured in the media, we will respect patient confidentiality.
